Annual Events Coming Up. Join Us!

No two years at the Winnipeg Labour Council are the same.  However we do have some annual events coming up and WLC affiliates, delegates and union members are invited to join us!

Labour Day Picnic & March - Monday, September 5, 2016

Due to construction in Vimy Ridge Park, this year’s Labour Day Picnic will be held in Central Park.  The Labour Day march will again start at Memorial Park at 1:30 and this year’s route will take us to Central Park.

The Picnic will start at 2:30 pm, following the march.  This year, entertainment will be provided by a group described as Canada's most energetic and endearing Folk trio, Red Moon Road.

It’s a pleasure to have a new way to connect with people in our community each year and show them a different side of the Labour movement.  However it is not a low cost event to put on.  We’d like to express our gratitude to the locals that have donated and ask others to consider doing so, if you’re able. We’re also always looking for volunteers to assist with loading supplies at Union Centre, set up at the park and clean up, to name a few.

If you are interested in participating in any of these ways, please give our office a call at 204-942-0522 or send us an email at wpglbr@mymts.net.  Let us know which union you’re a member of, when you’ll be available to volunteer and what you’d like to do.

United Way Plane Pull

This year the United Way has chosen to separate the Plane Pull from the Campaign Kickoff.

The pull will be on September 23 at the Red River Stevenson Campus and Sister Charlotte is again hoping to enter 2 Labour teams. It you’re able to give join in for part or all of that day, call us at 204-942-0522 or email, wpglbr@mymts.net.

Enjoy your summer!

Committee Invitation

Join Us!

WLC committees have been doing some pretty interesting things lately, in addition to the interesting things we were already doing!

From organizing the May Day march to the Labour Day Picnic to educational sessions and collection drives; we’re excited to see the difference that can be made when union activists get together.

We’re also looking for more!  We know that our affiliates have members who are amazing individuals.  And we’re hoping more of these enthusiastic, dedicated active members of affiliated unions will consider joining one or more of our active committees!

These are (in no particular order) the Community Services Committee, the Equality and Social Justice Committee, the Action Committee, and Education Committee.

Not sure what each of the committees do?  Each one is different but they’re all chance to represent your union and work with brothers, sisters & community allies from all over our city.

Meetings are held once a month at the WLC office.  How involved you get from there is up to you.

If any of this piques your interest, speak to a member of the Executive at a general meeting or call the WLC office at 204-942-0522.  We’re looking forward to working with you!
