CUPE 500 Raises $1,450 for Heart and Stroke Foundation

CUPE Team Members

Twenty-three riders were part of the CUPE 500 "Positively Public" team for the Heart and Stroke Foundation's Big Bike event held June 16. They raised over $1,450 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Local 500 members were joined by family for the ride through the Forks, wearing hearts which read "I put my heart into it for Shannon", in tribute to our team's captain, Sister Shannon Scromeda, a young member, entusiastic activist and loving mother, who was killed by her partner in April. Sister Scromeda initiated Local 500's involvement this year, as she believed this event would be an ideal opportunity to promote public service and its important role in our community - and would be an excellent excuse to have fun!

As the team tore through the Forks route in record time - cheering and waving at bystanders - the CUPE 500 members did their best to make Shannon proud.
